Other Information
We will have snack every morning during our centers time. Please send in a healthy snack without peanuts (we are a peanut-free zone). I also encourage all students to bring in a water bottle to leave at school and refill.
Agendas come home every day with additional homework (beyond the homework folder) written when assigned. Additionally, students write their "color" for the day. This refers to their behavioral color (see below). I will initial each students agenda each day and ask parents to do the same each night.
White Wednesday Folders come home every Wednesday. They include completed work and graded assignments as well as communication from the office.
Parent volunteers are always needed and welcomed throughout the year in a variety of areas (in class, parties/events, field trips, mentoring, etc.). If you are at all interested in volunteering this year, please complete the volunteer packet from the office. Please do not wait until right before a field trip to complete this packet, as it takes awhile to be processed before you are allowed to volunteer.
Star Hill uses a school-wide positive behavior system (PBS) and S.T.A.R.S. Matrix:
S - Shows Respect
T - Teamwork
A - A+ Attitude
R - Ready
S - Safety
In our class, in addition to using the PBS and STARS matrix, we also have a behavior chart. Every student begins every day on Green, and moves up or down the chart based on their actions. These colors correspond to the colors each day in their agenda.
Yellow - Star Student (above & beyond - on the lookout for extra special behavior)
Orange - Rockin' Choices (way to go!)
Green - Ready to Learn (clean slate every day)
Teal - Uh-oh (make better choices - lose 5 min of recess)
Blue - Chill Out (lose 15 min of recess & a note goes home)
Purple - Poor Decisions (no recess, call home, possibly office visit)
In our classroom, students who would like to have a classroom job must fill out an application to do so. Jobs last about a month, and applications are due on the 20th of the previous month. Students who are placed into a job will be paid each week for their hard work. Applications are here. The jobs are as follows:
Line Leader (this is the only job students do not have to apply for, it is assigned each week)
Librarian Messenger Mail Clerk Banker
Gardener Paper People Homework Checker Substitute
Cleaning Crew Lunch Counter Computer Technician
